What Is The Feldenkrais Method ®? |
Watch an infant reach for a toy, a toddler's first enthusiastic steps, kids rolling down a hill. Chances are you can hardly remember a time when your own movement
felt so free and effortless. With Feldenkrais lessons, you can learn to re-establish the ease of movement you felt as a child.
The Feldenkrais Method® is a movement based treatment developed by Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais that helps you re-connect with your natural ability to move, using an
exploratory process of learning we see in children. |
As Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais taught, we... "make the impossible possible, the possible easy, and the easy elegant." |
How Does Feldenkrais Work? |
Feldenkrais has two primary modalities, Functional Integration (FI) and Awareness through Movement Lessons (ATM). |
- With Functional Integration, learning happens through slow, gentle touch. The practitioner guides you through a series of precise movements that relax tense areas and provide valuable information directly to your neuromuscular system.
- With ATM, the Feldenkrais teacher talks you through a sequence of movements. Emphasis is on learning which movements work best to allow you to move in a coordinated, effortless way.
|
The Feldenkrais Method® helps you become aware of your body in a new way. You begin to feel where you hold muscular stress and how to let it go. Feldenkrais helps you learn to move with minimum effort and maximum
efficiency-not through muscular strength, but by becoming aware of how your body works. Functional movement patterns improve as your body is encouraged to explore new avenues of movement with guidance from your
Feldenkrais practitioner. You begin a continuing process of change - shifting out of harmful habits and into easier ways of moving. |
