We had the opportunity to speak with Shayne and Alan about their longstanding relationship with ALTA Physical Therapy and Pilates. Here is what they had to say: |
What brought you to ALTA Physical Therapy and Pilates in the first place? |
Shayne: One of my CU coaches referred me to ALTA. At the time I was dealing with a nagging injury that was not responding to treatment. With the treatment I received at ALTA, I quickly recovered. That was some 10 years ago and I have not been to any other therapist since. |
Alan: A fellow professional runner suggested physical therapy as an alternative to seeing a Chiropractor for injury issues. My first experience was a positive one and I have continued to come to ALTA for 8 years. |
What is it about ALTA that keeps you coming back after all these years? |
Shayne: Being a professional athlete, it is imperative that I stay healthy, and the therapists at ALTA have helped me remain injury free for the vast part of my career. My PT works with me to uncover physical problems before they become injuries. |
Alan: I recognized early in my career that preventative measures are essential to compete at an elite level. Although prevention is the biggest reason I have continued to go to ALTA, injuries are an inevitable part of high level competition. When I have been injured, I have always received accurate assessment and effective treatment. I firmly believe that going to ALTA has not only lengthened my career, but actually enhanced my performance. |
How long are most runners able to continue running competitively? |
Shayne: While most female runners can run competitively into their late 30's and sometimes early 40's, it's usually an injury that prematurely ends a career. Having a preventive Physical Therapy plan and excellent treatment can prolong a running career. It allows athletes at any level to continue to exercise into their later years, when injuries often start to creep up. |
Alan: Mid thirties is typically the longest most men continue to compete. As Shayne said, injuries are the most common reason why athletes stop competing, and this is why I have made ALTA an integral part of my training regimen. |
Have you received physical therapy care elsewhere? How has ALTA been different? |
Shayne: While physical therapy practices vary widely, it's important it to be involved with a PT program that works best for you. Often, by nature of habit, we head to the first physical therapist our doctor recommends. There are many choices out there and I would recommend that you search for a physical therapy practice that is best suited to care for your particular needs. For Alan and me, that place is ALTA. |
Alan: The quality of the treatment, knowledge and professionalism of the staff and the variety of services offered set ALTA apart. |
For more than 15 years, ALTA Physical Therapy and Pilates has served Boulder County's health needs. They offer a wide range of services including: Injury Rehab, Sports Medicine and Performance Enhancement and a full Pilates studio for fitness and rehabilitation. |
